ROME, Ga.- Women's basketball returned to Georgia to face Berry in hopes of completing the perfect conference opening weekend. After a tight second half battle, the Colonels fended off the Vikings' late rally to win by a score of 59-55, improving to a 2-0 record in the league.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Vikings opened from behind the arc but were answered with an 8-0 run featuring successive threes from
Lilly Reid and
Emma Perna. Berry had tied it at 10-10 with three minutes to go but the Colonels created distance with seven points in the final minute thanks to a three from
Ryleigh Campbell, a pair of charity baskets from
Lilly Reid, and a lay-up from
Arin Nipp.
- Similar to the first, Centre opened with a pair from long range, these from
Bailey Rucker and
Anna Thomas. For the first four minutes, the Colonels dominated, outscoring Berry 14-5 to take their first double digit lead. The Vikings battled back with a 13-3 run to make it a 3-point game entering halftime, the score reading 34-31, Centre favoring.
- The third frame was the lowest scoring, Berry taking a brief lead, but Perna and Rucker answering to repossess it. With the Vikings tallying 10 points to the Colonels' seven, the score was tied at 41-41 entering the final ten minutes of play.
- Both teams traded baskets up until the media timeout. Out of the breather, Thomas connected a free throw with a layup to give Centre a slight edge. For the final three minutes, all but a
Katelyn Stiltner jumper came at the line. The Colonels knocked down eight free throws compared to Berry's six to win by a score of 59-55.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre held four players in double digit points. Reid and Campbell led with 11 while Rucker and Thomas tallied ten apiece.
- Campbell led the court in three pointers after going 3-4.
- Stiltner led the game in rebounds with nine.
- The Colonels favored off the glass with 31 rebounds to the Vikings' 27.
- The score was tied five times.
- Centre favored from the paint while Berry led from long range.
