Swimming & diving downs Transylvania, falls to Patriots

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre swimming & diving added to the squad's list of NCAA cuts in a solid showing against Transylvania University and the University of the Cumberlands on Friday night in Champions Hall. 
 
The Colonel women defeated the Pioneers 205-34, but fell to the Patriots 135.5-104.5. Centre's men's team also took down Transylvania, with a 205-38 score, while falling 133-104 to the Cumberlands. 

The women's portion of the Gold & White squad had a diver notch an NCAA cut. Erin Dannemiller tallied a score of 270.50 in a winning one-meter dive (six dives) performance. That score was over 15 points above the NCAA Regional qualifying mark. 

Sara Jean Postle also impressed on the boards for the women. The freshman won the three-meter (six dives) event with a tally of 208.90. 

On the swimming side, the Centre women opened the night with a win. Avery Gabbard, Natalie Cox, Callie West, and Olivia Headley won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.18. 

West added to that win with two individual wins. The Lexington, Ky. native touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.01 and followed that up with a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly (57.10). 

The Colonels had two winners on the men's side with both tallying two wins each. Brady Miller won the 1000 freestyle for the seventh time in his debut collegiate season with a mark of 9:42.70. He took home first in the 500 freestyle for the eighth time this season with a time of 4:44.17 on Friday night. 

Avery Balch was the other Centre winner for the men. He swept the diving contests with two NCAA cuts, which he had already locked down earlier in the season. The three-meter dive (six dives) was won with a score of 309.95, while the one-meter (six dives) was won with a tally of 318.80.

The Colonels will have a break for the rest of January before retuning to the pool for senior day. That special meet will be agaisnt Asbury on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 12 p.m. in Champions Hall.
