DANVILLE, Ky.- On Wednesday evening, the Colonels and Tigers tipped-off in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) mid-week match up. After leading for much of the contest, Centre women's basketball fell to Sewanee's fourth-quarter rally to move to a 4-1 mark in the league, 13-5 overall.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- It was a back-and-forth affair up until the first quarter's media time out. The Colonels took control out of the break as
Lindsay Jessie initiated a 10-2 run in the final four minutes, six of which came from
Lilly Reid in the paint.
- The Colonels claimed a double figure lead in the first 90 seconds of the frame as Reid turned a three-point play at the line followed by
Arin Nipp from the floor. Midway through, the Tigers caught momentum with a 13-2 run to make it a two-point game. In the final minute of the half, both teams added four points to the board, leaving the score at Centre 28, Sewanee 26 entering halftime.
- The second half started at a slower pace, both teams quite for the opening two minutes of action. Sewanee made it a one-point game with a three and following charity basket just before
Bailey Rucker struck hot. Outscoring the Tigers 7-4 herself, Rucker, plus a later basket from
Ka'Niah Edelen, gave Centre a four-point edge entering the final frame.
- Sewanee took control early in the fourth quarter, opening with a 13-1 streak to go up by eight.
Anna Thomas, Edelen, and Jessie attempted to battle back in the final minutes, but the Tigers ultimately closed the game at the line, setting the final score at 58-52.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels possessed two athletes with double figure points; Reid led with 14 while Rucker tallied 13.
- Rucker led Centre off the glass with six rebounds.
- Edelen tied for the game's leader in assists with four.
- The Colonels favored in points in the paint, second chance points, points from turnovers, and bench points.
- Sewanee led off the glass with 38 rebounds compared to Centre's 35.
