SEWANEE, Tenn. - One week after handing SAA-leading Sewanee its first loss in conference play, Centre men's basketball hit the road for the rematch as they looked for the regular season sweep against the Tigers. The extremely close contest went to Sewanee by a score of 83-81.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening stages of the game belonged to the home team as Sewanee jumped out to a 17-7 lead through the first ten minutes.
- Centre gradually got back in the game with the defense and penetration of
Landen Hamilton and the shooting of
Ryan Shene. They came all the way back as
Jaxson Banks buried a three in transition to put the Colonels up 33-32. The Tigers scored twice in the final 70 seconds to take a 36-33 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- To start the second half, Centre quickly went on top following threes from Shene and Banks. The teams traded the lead back and forth over the next five minutes.
- Seeing his first action since December,
Kalib Thomas came off the bench and got to the rack to give the Colonels their largest lead of the night at 55-50.
- The Tigers battled back, retaking the lead on a four-point play. Over the next four minutes, the lead changed hands nine times as each team absorbed the other's best punches while delivering haymakers of their own.
- With five minutes to go, Hamilton tied the score twice in a row with layups, the first one resulting in an and-1.
- In the final two minutes, Banks twice cut the deficit to a single point. Missed free throws from Sewanee gave the Colonels an opportunity to tie or win with the last shot, but Centre's game-winning attempt was blocked and the Tigers escaped with the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hamilton hit another season high as he finished two points shy of his career high, scoring 30 points while filling the box score with seven rebounds, eight assists and four steals before fouling out with two minutes left.
- Shene finished with 18 points on 6-10 shooting from three-point range. Banks did most of his damage in the second half, scoring 15.
- The game featured 17 lead changes and ten ties.

Centre will look to bounce back on Sunday as they travel to Millsaps. The Colonels knocked off Millsaps 82-69 on Jan. 24.
