Centre Swimming kicked off the 2025-26 season with a tri-match at Berry and against Millsaps. The Colonels showed their might from the start and took away wins against both opponents. Against Berry, the men came away with a 148-114 win, while the women cruised to a 194-67 win. In the matchup against Millsaps, the result was never in doubt as Centre rolled 245-5 in men's action, when the women won their match, 233-1.
In men's action, the Colonels took 2nd in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays. In the solo races, Centre dominated.
Brady Miller won the 1000-yard free with a time of 9:49.28, more than 36 seconds ahead of anyone else in the water for the race.
Gavin Schoeling grinded out a win in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:46.54, a 0.65 second margin over 2nd-place Berry.
Tiernan Moore took home the win in the 100-yard breaststroke as the only swimmer to break a minute with a time of 59.44.
Mason McCallum finished 3rd with a time of 1:00.75.
Jack Liau cruised to a nearly 8-second win in the 200-yard butterfly in a final time of 1:55.30.
Calvin Mar finished 3rd with
Griffin Brown and
Jack Lawrence not far behind.
Xavier Moore narrowly took home the win in the 50-free in a time of 22.28, just .03 ahead of a Berry swimmer in 2nd. Five swimmers finished within .56 seconds of each other at the wall. The Colonels dominated the 200-yard breaststroke as
Tiernan Moore led a podium sweep with
Mason McCallum and
Jake Holmes finishing 2nd and 3rd.
Brady Miller then took to the water in the 500-free and put on another dominant display with a time of 4:48.31, nearly 14 seconds ahead of
Alfonso Verduzco Mijares in second. After a win in the 200-fly,
Jack Liau repeated the feat in the 100 with a time of 51.84.
Jake Holmes then took home another win in the 200-IM with a time of 2:00.28.
In women's action, Centre took home first and second in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of
Avery Gabbard,
Ava Gates,
Emma Daman, and
Caroline Lee won in a time of 1:51.06. The Colonels also won the 200-free relay to close the night. The team of Daman, Libby Taylor,
Whitney Dollins and
Caroline Short won by nearly 6 seconds in a time of 1:42.89. In the individual races, the Colonels made a statement in the opener.
Sarah Feild crushed the 1000-yard free with a time of 11:10.55 to win by over 28 seconds.
Centre took the top 4 spots in the 100-yard backstroke, led by
Caroline Lee at the top, followed by
Avery Gabbard,
Roya Sanai and
Rachel Mitter.
Ava Gates followed with a win in the 100-yard back in a time of 1:07.87, nearly 2 seconds clear.
Caroline Short and
Cate Coartney finished 1-2 in the 200-yard butterfly. Lee returned in the 50-free with a time of 24.92 and the only swimmer to break 26 seconds.
Whitney Dollins took second in 26.17 seconds. Lee also took the win in the 100-free with Libby Taylor less than a second behind. For the second time, Centre took the top 4 spots, this time in the 200-back.
Avery Gabbard won it with a time of 2:13.47, followed by Sanai,
Hanna McNamara and Coartney.
Ava Gates returned with a 6.88 second win in the 200-back, followed by another dominant win from
Sarah Feild, who won the 500-free by more than 15 seconds. In the penultimate solo event of the night, Centre took home the top 5 spots in the 100 butterfly. Libby Taylor blistered the opening 50 in 28.47 seconds en route to a 1.67 second win over
Caroline Short.
Emma Daman finished 3rd, followed by
Sophia McCalla and
Rachel Mitter.
The Colonels will look to keep the momentum rolling on Saturday at the Sewanee Relays, starting at 1:00pm. Centre Diving kicks off its 2025 season at Champions Hall on Saturday, starting at 10:00am.
