After an up-and-down non-conference slate, Centre Field Hockey turned the page to the CFHC season with a boost of optimism. It showed on Saturday morning as the Colonels rolled into Mequon, WI and dominated Concordia Wisconsin, 4-0, to start the conference slate.
The first quarter was quiet as the Colonels'
Taylor Fuqua logged the only shot for either side, which was saved. In the 2nd,
Olivia Vonderheide got the Colonels on the board off an
Emily Ritchie pass in the 20th minute.
Ashley Hamilton nearly doubled the lead 4 minutes later but her shot was just tipped away at the last moment.
Addie Sheridan stopped the only shot faced in the the entire half with just 2:15 to play as Centre took a 1-0 lead to halftime.
Concordia Wisconsin came out aggressive to start the 3rd quarter with 2 penalty corners in the opening 2 minutes. The first did result in a shot but Sheridan was there for the stop. An ensuing second penalty corner was cleared out by the Colonel defense.
Emily Ritchie then logged her 2nd assist of the day in the 39th minute as she set up
Claire Martin in the box for a strike that doubled Centre's lead. Martin then scored her team-high 7th of the season in the 42nd minute thanks to a slick pass from
Ashley Hamilton to give Centre a 3-goal lead heading to the 4th.
Hannah Miller scored the last for Centre just 2:35 into the 4th off an assist from
Tori Drepaul.
Addie Sheridan tallied 2 of her 4 saves shortly after to finish off the shutout.
Centre's offense held the advantage from the start and carried it throughout. The Colonels finished with a 13-4 edge in shots on goal, while the defense allowed just 6 shots in total.
The Colonels will go for the weekend Wisconsin sweep on Sunday as they head to Fond du Lac to take on Marian starting at 1:00pm.
