After earning a point on the road against Rhodes last Sunday, Centre Men's Soccer was looking to build and take the next step at Trinity on Saturday. It was not meant to be as the Tigers scored twice in the opening 20 minutes and never looked back in a 5-0 shutout of the Colonels.
Grayson Parish got the start in goal for the Colonels and made the first save of the game in the 13th minute. Trinity tried twice on the rebounds to score with the third time proving the charm. Centre's D was unable to clear the ball away and the Tigers tapped it home for a 1-0 lead. The margin grew to 2 in the 20th minute near the end of a corner kick sequence. Trinity would add a 3rd in the 25th minute and take a 3-0 lead to halftime. The Tigers also shut down Centre's attack as the Colonels never mustered a shot attempt in the half.
Martin Cortez took over in the Centre net for the 2nd half but also saw a relentless Tiger attack. Trinity scored off another corner kick in the 52nd minute to push the Centre deficit to 4.
Ryan O'Hara took Centre's only shot of the day just 29 seconds after the Trinity goal but nothing came from it. The Colonels had 2 corners in the half, yet still could not put anything on goal to get on the board. Trinity added the final tally in the 76th minute.
The Colonels return to Amend Field next Saturday to battle Southwestern on Homecoming weekend. Kickoff is set for 2:30pm.
