Swim cruises by Campbellsville and Midway

10/14/2025 11:06:00 PM

Centre Swim took to the home waters in Champions Hall for the first time in the 2025-26 season on Tuesday night and put on a dominating performance against Campbellsville and Midway. The Colonels came away with wins against both NAIA schools. Against Campbellsville, the men came home with a 136-67 win, while the women won 146-57. The margins grew against Midway as the men won 157-46 and the women won 150-53.

In women's action, the story was Elizabeth Taylor. The Winchester native put on a show in her 1st home meet in the 500-yard free. She roared out of the gates with a 28.84 split in the opening 50, the only split of any swimmer to go under 30 seconds. Taylor kept the pedal to the metal the whole way and roared home in a stunning time of 5 minutes, 17.23 seconds. She set a new PR by over 7 seconds and blew away the field with a victory margin of 14.95 seconds.

While the freshman had her coming out party, senior Caroline Lee also showed she was ready to go in her final year at Centre. She led off the day in the 200-yard medley relay in 28.89 en route to a win alongside Natalie Cox, Emma Daman and Caroline Short. Lee also won the 100-yard free in a time of 56.05, over a second faster than teammates Lucy Lowe and Roya Sanai. Lee also swam anchor in the 200-yard free relay on the Centre "B" team with Ava Gates, Lucy Lowe and Avery Gabbard. Lee's split of 24.66 propelled her squad to a comeback win. Lee also swam anchor in her team's win in the 400-free relay to close the night.

Caroline Short also had a strong night with wins in the 200-yard medley relay, 50-yard free and 400-yard free relay. Ava Gates won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:15.31, nearly 3 seconds clear of the field and swam the lead in the winning 200-yard free relay. Natalie Cox squeaked out a win in the 100-yard back.

On the men's side, Jack Liau picked up where he left off as the reigning SAA Men's Swimmer of the Week. He swam 3rd in the Colonels' win in the 200-yard medley relay to start the night. He also won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 59.21, giving him the fastest time of anyone on the current roster.

Mason McCallum put on an impressive show in the 200 IM as he won by over 6 seconds in a time of 2:01.40. McCallum swam the opening 50 in a blistering 25.90 and led wire-to-wire. The Colonels swept the podium in the 50 free as Jake Holmes won in 22.49, followed by Jack Lawrence at 22.70 and Logen Black at 22.90. Gavin Schoeling was the next Colonel picking up a win as the freshman took first in the 100 fly by over 2 seconds. Xavier Moore won the 100 back in 54.01 seconds.

Brady Miller then stepped up to lane 6 for the 500 free and did his best to imitate what Elizabeth Taylor did right before him. Miller's opening 50 split of 24.97 left everyone in his wake. He never let up and took the win in a time of 4:40.62. All 10 of his splits were sub-30 seconds. Miller's margin of victory: 15.83 seconds.

The closest race of the night came in the men's 200 free relay. Jake Holmes swam anchor for the Colonels "B" team and came home in 21.75 seconds to chase down teammate Logen Black and give the "B" team a win by .01 seconds. Centre "B" finished in a time of 1:29.43 to Centre "A" ending in 1:29.44.
