LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Centre volleyball bounced back from last night's marathon loss as they competed in a non-conference doubleheader at Covenant. After defeating Piedmont in straight sets, the Colonels capped off the night with a 3-2 win against Covenant.
Game 1: Centre 3, Piedmont 0
- The Colonels never trailed in the opening set. Centre ripped off five consecutive points to break a 5-5 tie and the Lions could get no closer than one point the rest of the way. A block by
Mack Turner provided the clinching point on a 25-17 victory for the Colonels.
- The second set saw Centre grab the lead midway through and gradually extend the advantage until the end as
Mady Mardock put the finishing touches on an identical 25-17 win with a sealing kill.
- The third set was more of the same for the Colonels. Centre once again grabbed the early lead and never relinquished it. For the third consecutive time, the Colonels won by a score of 25-17 as
Sami Lanan put away the match with the final kill.
Game 2: Centre 3, Covenant 2
- The opening set was a close one all the way with multiple lead changes and ties, and neither team ever leading by more than four points. That advantage went to the Colonels at 21-17, and they held on for a 25-23 victory as Mardock and
Syd Bietz teamed up for a tandem block to secure it for Centre.
- In the second set, Centre again got off to a good start and held the lead in the early stages before a 10-2 run by the Scots put the home team ahead. The Colonels rallied to tie the score at 23-23, but Covenant got the final two points to even the contest at 1-1.
- The third set saw the lead change hands a few more times as both teams fought to take the overall lead in the match. Covenant surged ahead at the midway points and held onto the lead to take a 25-21 win to push Centre to the brink.
- The Colonels utilized an early run of seven straight points to grab a lead that they would never surrender. Covenant rallied to cut the deficit to a single point, but Centre countered with another run near the end, scoring the last five points to win 25-19 as Turner put home the final kill to extend the match to the limit.
- The fifth set was defined by rallies. Centre scored the first four points of the frame. Covenant answered with five in a row. The Colonels countered with three straight. Covenant responded with three straight of their own. A 4-0 spurt by Centre gave the Colonels an 11-8 lead. The Scots again had the answer with four straight to regain the lead. Finally the last burst belonged to the Colonels, who scored four of the last five to take a 15-13 win, with Turner delivering the final two kills for the Colonels.

The Colonels will return home next week for their final conference games of the season beginning with a rematch against no. 14 Berry on Nov. 1.
