Centre Women's Soccer started the 2025 home finale by honoring seniors
Ella Scott,
Riley Givens,
Meg Ralston and
Alexis Kronenthal. All 4 got the start as the Colonels looked for an important 3 points against Oglethorpe. The Stormy Petrels had other plans as a single goal in the 84th minute gave Oglethorpe a 1-0 win to shake up the SAA standings.
The Colonels came out firing early and often in search for an early edge. They tallied the only 4 shot attempts in the first 15 minutes. The first try on goal came from
Claire Cavacini but was right at the keeper in the 24th minute. Centre continued to be the aggressor as
Zara McCarthy and Cavacini each had viable chances later in the half but could not find the net as the game went scoreless to halftime. The Colonel D held Oglethorpe without a single shot attempt in the half.
Madeline Redmon got the start in goal for Centre and made her first save in the 53rd minute. The Colonel offense continued to search for shots but struggled to get chances on net. The teams continued to trade possession until the 84th minute. An Oglethorpe shot from the right side of the box got up into a cross wind and never came down until it was over Redmon's outstretched hand and in goal. It was a tough break for Redmon as the ball just seemingly never left the sky until it found the net.
Centre took 16 total shots in the game but only 3 were on goal. The defense only allowed 5 total shots and conceded just 2 corners. With the result, Centre drops to 6th in the SAA standings with a game to go. Only the top-6 go to the SAA Tournament in Memphis in early November. The Colonels sit a single point ahead of Berry but can clinch a spot with a win in the regular season finale next Saturday at Sewanee. Kickoff is set for 4:00pm.
