In the final non-conference game of the season, Centre made the short trek north to battle Transylvania in Lexington on Tuesday night. The Colonels grabbed an early lead and never looked back in a 6-0 rout of the Pioneers. The goal count marked the highest of the season for the Colonels.
Centre needed just under 5 minutes of the game to get on the board as
Claire Martin found an opening in the box to tally her team-leading 8th goal of the year for the early lead.
Hannah Miller nearly doubled the lead less than 90 seconds later but was denied on the doorstep. Transy's only chance in the 1st was off a penalty corner in the 9th minute but the shot went wide as Centre took a 1-0 lead to the 2nd.
While
Hannah Miller could not capitalize in the 1st, she did so in the 2nd at the 21:20 mark to finally double the Colonel lead. In the 27th minute,
Emily Ritchie buried one from in close to give Centre a 3-0 lead. A late penalty corner for Centre was turned aside but a dominant quarter still gave them a 3-0 lead at halftime.
In the 3rd, the Colonels continued to control the ball and field. Two early
Emily Ritchie penalty corners kept the Pioneers backed up, where they would remain for most of the 3rd. Four shots and four penalty corners in the first 8 minutes kept Centre in command. The pressure paid off in the 41st minute when
Taylor Fuqua fired a shot home to push the lead to 4, while the defense held Transy without a shot attempt in the quarter.
Philine Bolt made it 5-0 later in the 4th and
Hannah Miller scored her 2nd of the night with less than 4 minutes to go for the final result. Centre dominated on both sides of the ball, outshooting Transy 17-4 overall and 12-2 on goal. The Pioneers did not record a shot on goal in the first 3 quarters.
Addie Sheridan stopped the only 2 shots faced in the 4th quarter.
Eliza Hensley started in goal but faced little threat.
Centre now turns its focus to Senior Day on Saturday as Rhodes comes to Danville for the regular season finale.
Halle Rigden,
Emily Ritchie and
Claire Martin will all be honored, starting at 11:50am with the game to follow at Noon.
