Men's basketball falters in second half against MSJ

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre men's basketball team was unable to cool down the hot shooting of Mount St. Joseph in the second half of tonight's matchup as the Colonels dropped a close decision to the Lions by a score of 61-58.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Centre played well in the opening half on both sides of the ball, jumping out to an early 10-2 lead on a driving layup by Izaiah Villafuerte. After trading baskets for the next few minutes, Ryan Shene buried consecutive three-pointers to put the Colonels on top 25-11.
- The Lions pounded the offensive glass to cut the deficit in half, but a jumper by Nolan Wahl at the 1:44 mark proved to be the final points of the half for either team as Centre went into the locker room up 31-20.
- The Colonels kept the momentum in the early stages of the second half as the defense forced a shot clock violation and Centre surged to a 37-22 lead on a pair of layups by Riley Mastin.
- From there, the visiting Lions caught fire as Mount St. Joseph made nine of their first ten shots to open the half and outscored Centre 20-4 in less than six minutes to take the lead for the first time.
- Centre had success pounding the ball inside as Mastin scored twice to tie the score at 45-45, but after the Lions made a three-pointer to make it a 50-47 game with less than eight minutes, they never trailed again. Mount St. Joseph missed just one field goal attempt for the rest of the game to hold onto their lead.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- After shooting 50 percent from three-point range in the first half (6-12), Centre managed just 1-11 from long range in the second half for 9 percent.
