ATLANTA – The Southern Athletic Association released its 2025 postseason awards for football and Centre came away with another strong haul of all-conference honorees, highlighted by a Special Teams Athlete of the Year nod for
Cree Ross.
Ross was voted the top special teams player in the conference by the league's coaches after a breakthrough junior campaign. The track & field All-American led all of Division III with three kickoff return touchdowns, running back kicks for scores against Millsaps, Trinity and Sewanee. Ross was named SAA Special Teams Player of the Week twice during the season.
Senior wide receiver
Blake Busson was named to the All-SAA First Team. Accounting for 44 percent of Centre's total receiving yardage on the year, Busson led the SAA with 1,074 receiving yards, becoming Centre's first 1,000-yard receiver since Jaylon Hibbs in 2018. Busson had six games of at least 100 yards and surpassed the program's career receiving yards record in Centre's win over Sewanee on Nov. 8.
The Colonels had a pair of players earn All-SAA Second Team honors. Senior linebacker
Brennan Bareswilt is a first time All-SAA honoree in his second year as a starter for Centre. Bareswilt tied for the team lead with 43 tackles and his 11 tackles for loss were also a team high. Additionally, he recorded 2.5 sacks from his outside linebacker position.
Punter
Will Boehm picked up his second all-conference nod after finishing 11th in the country with a 41.5-yard average per punt. Boehm earned one SAA Special Teams Player of the Week honor, pinned 19 punts inside the opposing 20 and yielded a net of eight return yards all season long.
Eight different players were named All-SAA Honorable Mention. Quarterback
Jack Gohmann received his second consecutive All-SAA honor in his senior season. After leading the conference in most passing categories last season, Gohmann finished second in the league in completions and passing yards this season.
The secondary had a pair of All-SAA first time honorees in
Brooks Sapone and
Ryan Combs. Sapone missed most of his sophomore season with a broken hand, but was healthy all season as a junior and tied Bareswilt for the team lead with 43 total tackles while also finishing fourth in the conference with eight pass breakups. Combs was rock solid all year long at his safety position, finishing with 34 tackles, two tackles for loss and four pass breakups.
The offensive line was bookended by a pair of senior All-SAA award winners.
Max Huffine was a first time All-SAA honoree as one of the most versatile offensive linemen the Colonels have ever had, starting at four of the five offensive line positions during his career before settling in at left tackle in 2025.
Jake Nash earned his second All-SAA honor after being voted to the All-SAA Second Team in 2024. Nash was a three-year starter for the Colonels at right tackle.
Finally, all three starters on the Centre defensive line – senior
Adam Wicktom and juniors
Carson Combs and
Wyatt Fowler – were named All-SAA Honorable Mention. It is the second All-SAA honor for Wicktom and Fowler and the first for Combs. The three defensive linemen combined for 68 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and seven sacks in 2025 and played a huge role in the defense allowing just three points over the final two games of the season, including a net zero rushing yards in the regular season finale. Combs also had a knack for the big play, icing a win over Southwestern with a fumble recovery.
