LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Centre men's basketball completed a sweep at the 84 Lumber Classic as they avenged a loss from last season, riding a hot first half to an 88-75 victory over the LeTourneau Yellow Jackets.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- After scoring a career high 31 points in last night's 112-108 win over Covenant,
Drake Ingram got the start and picked up where he left off as he and
Landen Hamilton got Centre off to a quick 10-2 start.
- Centre took its first double digit lead at 14-4 on a pair of free throws by
Riley Mastin and from there, the lead varied between seven and 12 points for most of the rest of the half.
- The Yellow Jackets stayed in the game at the free throw line and cut the deficit to five points with six minutes left in the half, but Centre had the answer and scored the last five points of the half to take a 48-35 lead at the break, with
Ryan Shene connecting on a three-pointer with three seconds to go.
- The Colonels went cold in the first three minutes of the second half, but they held LeTourneau to just two baskets during that stretch. After a three from Ingram made it 51-39, the Colonels maintained the double-digit lead the rest of the way. When the Jackets cut the Centre lead to ten points, Centre had the answer from long distance, first from Mastin and the second time when
Johnny Djema made the first three-pointer of his career.
- The Colonels extended to their largest lead at 88-71 in the final minute following a dunk from Djema.
