Danville, KY--- Colonels are off to a strong start in the Hampton Inn/ Lee's Famous Chicken Classic Tournament with a 67-51 win over Berry College.
Berry opened the game with early points from Lauren Ellard and Elly Callihan, taking an 11-5 lead from Emma Hempker's three-pointer.
A shift in momentum with Centre ending the period on a 14- 2 run, Lily Reid scoring 9 points in the final two minutes of the period, including a three-pointer and two fast-break layups, set up Kaniah Edelens's steals.
Berry cut the lead to 2 early on, but the Colonels were able to conserve the lead with several big threes by Smith, Harper, and Reid.
Coming out of the half, Berry made a push for the lead with Briaiah Lewis scoring several times to cut the lead to 2 for the second time. Points by Reid, and a late three from Russell helped Centre
stay ahead.
Colonels started to pull away at the start of the fourth quarter as Edelen and Reid both scored threes.
Berry tried to make a late push with scoring inside, but could not close the gap because of steady free-throw shooting from that sealed the deal for the Colonels. Overall Centre lead for 34 minutes of the game
