Colonels take 2nd place finishes at Speedo Invite

Centre Swim & Dive hosted a 12-team field in the 2025 Speedo Midseason Invitational at Champions Hall over the weekend. The Colonels posted stellar results across the board and took 2nd place in the men's standings with 2163 points. Centre Women also finished 2nd with an impressive 2272 points. Thanks to Ava Gates on Sunday, all Centre program records have now been set since Dean Brownley became the Colonels' head coach.

Friday Highlights
  • Men's 400 medley relay set a new program record with a race time of 3:21.72.
  • Women's 200-yard freestyle relay finished in 3rd place with a time of 1:38.24.
  • Roya Sanai won the 500 free C final in a time of 5:24.75.
  • Brady Miller took 2nd in the men's 500 free A final with a time of 4:33.62, just 0.21 seconds off the old meet record time.
  • Ava Gates set a new lifetime best in the 200 IM as she swam a time of 2:12.55 to finish 2nd in the B final, tying for the 7th fastest overall time among all swimmers.
  • Jake Holmes took 4th in the men's 200 IM A final in a time of 1:53.08, while Gavin Schoeling finished 6th.
  • Caroline Lee won the women's 50 free A final in 23.70 seconds, a margin of victory of 0.29 seconds. Caroline Short won the C final in 24.90 seconds.

  • Ava Gates broke the longest-standing Centre record in the women's 200 breaststroke in the prelims with a time of 2:24.11. She went even faster in the final to re-break her own record with a finals time of 2:22.69. Beth Grohmann, who was in attendance, set the previous Centre record of 2:25.10 all the way back in 1992. It also was the final Centre record not previously broken under Head Coach, Dean Brownley.
  • Tiernan Moore set a new meet record in winning the men's 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:01.14 to win by nearly 3 seconds. The time was just 1.14 off his own school record in the event.
  • Garrett George nearly set a new program record in winning the men's 3-meter competition as he tallied 534.55 points, less than 12 off the mark set by Avery Balch in 2024. Brandon Anderson moved up to 2nd, with Justin Toth coming in 3rd.
  • Brady Miller smashed the men's 1650 free record with a time of 15:50.27, nearly 3 seconds faster than the old meet record. All 33 of his splits clocked in at under 30 seconds.
  • Erin Dannemiller again took 2nd in Sunday's 1-meter dive competition with a score of 375.20 points. Sara Jean Postle came in 3rd with 330.60 and Riley Taylor was 4th.
  • Haley Mickelwait finished 2nd in the women's 100 IM B final in a time of 1:06.29.
  • Jack Liau and Gavin Schoeling finished a close 3rd and 4th in the men's 200 fly A final. The pair were both less than 1.3 seconds off the event win.
  • Jake Holmes took 2nd in the men's A final of the 100 IM in a time of 52.91.
  • Avery Gabbard grabbed 3rd in the 200 back in 2:08.38. Cullen Roberts won the men's B final in the same event in 1:55.69.
