11/8/2025 4:02:00 PM

History was made on Saturday afternoon as Dean Brownley earned his 500th career win as Men's Swim took down Wabash, 196-104.

Brownley won 83 of the 500 at Campbellsville, before arriving at Centre for the 2001-02 season. The win now gives him 417 as the leader of the Colonels.

The Colonels started the day with a nearly 2 second win in the 200 medley relay. Jackson Campbell swam the anchor 50 in 22.13 seconds to secure the victory. Brady Miller dominated the 500 and 1000 free at DePauw on Friday night and did it again at Wabash. In the 1000, Miller was again the only swimmer to complete every split in less than 30 seconds. He also bested his Friday time by over 4 seconds as he won Saturday in a time of 9:38.95. The story was the same later in the day in the 500 free as Miller won it by nearly 8 seconds and also lowered his Friday time to finish Saturday in 4:43.49.

Tiernan Moore soon followed with a new Wabash pool record in the 100 breast as he won the race in a time of 57.34 seconds. He was the only swimmer to break the 1-minute mark in setting the record. Moore also took home the win in the 200 breast in a time of 2:08.17. Xavier Moore also picked up 2 solo wins as he won the 50 free and 100 back. Jack Liau also did the double as he rolled to wins in the 100 fly and 200 fly. Mason McCallum had his own moment to shine as he won the 200 IM in 1:59.37 and was the only swimmer to go sub-2 minutes. The Colonels finished the day with a 1-second win in the 400 free relay. Jake Holmes, Liau, Griffin Brown and Gavin Schoeling beat Wabash with a time of 3:15.24.

On the diving board, another Wabash pool record fell as Justin Toth put up a staggering score of 336.75 on the 1-meter board. Brandon Anderson finished 2nd with 291.60 points and Garrett George was 3rd with 269.55. On the 3-meter board, Garrett George was the one to come away with a dominant win. He ended with a big score of 349.40, a margin of 42.15 points over Justin Toth. Brandon Anderson was 3rd with 273.25 points.

Wabash did not have its women's team in competition, so Centre Women's Swim and Dive competed on its own. The "C" team won the 200 medley relay as the quartet of Mikayla Pruett, Sarah Feild, Caroline Short and Roya Sanai came home in a time of 2:00.60. Sarah Feild then won the 200 free in 2:05.65. Caroline Lee took home the win in the 100 back in just over 1-minute flat for a 4-second margin of victory. Caroline Short won the 200 fly by nearly 6 seconds in a time of 2:24.69. Libby Taylor finished up the early session with a win in the 50 free in 25.52 seconds. She also won the 100 free in 55.64 seconds, just 0.41 ahead of Katelyn Stanczyk.

On the 1-meter diving board, Riley Taylor beat out Sara Jean Postle and Erin Dannemiller with a score of 192.30. Postle was 2nd with 192.00 and Dannemiller was 3rd with 190.55 points. Later on the 3-meter board, Dannemiller got the win with 222.20 points. Postle was 2nd with 204.85 and Taylor finished 3rd with 193.15 points.

After an early win in the 100 back, Caroline Lee doubled the distance and her win total with a first touch in the 200 back in a time of 2:16.69, nearly 4 seconds of 2nd place Hanna McNamara. Avery Gabbard won the women's 500 free in a time of 5:30.85, a margin of over 8 seconds. Gabbard later won the 200 IM by only 0.52 seconds over Sophia McCalla. Ava Gates grabbed bragging rights in the 100 fly with a winning time of 1 minute, 1.06 seconds.

With his 500th win now in the books, Dean Brownley spoke about the achievement. "There have been a lot of people along the way who helped to make this possible," he said. "This achievement is on the backs of all of the swimmers and divers that have put in the hard work, the assistant coaches who do all the things behind the scenes, the trainers that keep us together, the parents of the athletes that show us support at home and on the road, and the Centre administration for supporting our sport. Last, but not least, I want to thank my family for always being there for me. This is not just a milestone for me but for the whole Centre Swimming and Diving family."

The Colonels now get set for the Speedo Classic, taking place inside Champions Hall, and running from Friday November 21st to Sunday November 23rd.
