NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Centre men's basketball bounced back from yesterday's loss by winning the second matchup in the Music City Classic, knocking off the Ramapo Roadrunners by a score of 57-53 on Saturday night.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Both teams struggled to put the ball in the basket during the early stages, including a four-minute stretch with neither team cracking the scoreboard. The Colonels made a nice rally halfway through the half as Centre crashed the offensive glass to get a few easy baskets and
Garrison Hildebrant came off the bench to give the Colonels a lift, tipping in a miss to take a 13-12 lead.
- After trading baskets over the next five minutes, Ramapo took an 18-15 lead before Centre responded with a quick burst of offense. A jumper by
Riley Mastin was sandwiched in between three-pointers from
Drake Ingram and
Hunter Coleman to cap off an 8-0 run for the Colonels that took barely a minute of game action.
- A three from Izaiyah Villafuerte and a free throw from
Nolan Wahl gave the Colonels a 27-25 edge going into the locker room at the half.
- Centre maintained the lead in the early part of the second half as Ingram buried a three to open the scoring. The Colonels continued to rebound well with Mastin and Wahl pounding the boards for baskets.
- Despite never leading by more than five in the second half, the Colonels never trailed either. With less than a minute to go, the Roadrunners cut Centre's lead to 52-51. Needing a basket, it was another offensive rebound that got it done as
Ryan Shene snared a Centre miss and kicked it out to
Landen Hamilton for an open three that dropped to put Centre up by four. Ingram iced the game at the free throw line to give the Colonels the win.
