Greenville, IL---- at the start of the game, you would have thought this would have been a close game, but the ending was not close as Centre wins 73-60 over Greenville
The first quarter proved this game was going to be a close one, as both teams traded baskets, leading to multiple lead changes. Â Greenville took the lead early with a jumper and a three-pointer from Alyssa Seymour to go ahead 8-2. The Colonels responded with steals from
Lola Fouts and
Isabelle Combs and baskets from Clarie Rusell, Combs, and a three-pointer from
Lilly Reid to tie it up.
Greenville went on a scoring run with a layup from Cortney Brummer and free throws from Baylie Joiner. Centre responded with a mini scoring run with a basket from
Tessa Miles, a layup and free throw from Isabella Combs to take the lead for the first time, quarter closing 18-17.
The second quarter started with a two-minute scoring drought as both team missing three-pointers to get going. After a layup from Greenville's Alyssa Seymour, both teams started to gain momentum, trading baskets and threes back and forth, with Centre getting perimeter shots from
Lola Fouts, Campbell, and
Lilly Reid.
Greenville stayed right with the colonel with interior scoring by Seymour and Baylie Joiner, along with a key three from Cortney Brummer. Neither team was able to gain a big lead advantage, and Centre went into the half clinging to a 33-32 advantage.
Straight out of halftime, the Colonels go on a strong offensive surge, led by
Lilly Reid, Lindsay Jesse, and
Trinity Armour, helping to build momentum. Reid scored inside and from the edge, while Jessie had scored efficiently around the inside.
Greenville relied heavily on free throws from Amelia Shoemaker and Alyssa Seymour, but Centre outscored them in the quarter, extending the lead to 56-42.
Opening of the final quarter, Greenville fought back, with baskets from Mia deJesus and Trinity Wade to cut into the lead. Centre, however, responded to every basket with one of their own.
Ryleigh Campbell hit a key three, and Jessie consistently converted layups to help maintain a safe lead, preventing Greenville from mounting a full comeback.
