DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre women's track & field team opened the 2025-26 season by hosting the Centre First Chance Meet inside Champions Hall. The event was not scored, but facing a field of teams from several divisions, the Colonels had multiple outstanding performances, with a pair of school records falling in the jumping events.
In the sprints, Centre had four of the top eight finishers in the 60m. All-American long jumper
Chloe Hein led the way as she won with a time of 7.59, with
Amari Robinson,
Faith Peterson and
Ainsley Wilson all landing inside the top eight. Hein picked up her second win of the day in the 200m as she recorded a time of 25.12, with Robinson and Peterson giving the Centre women a 1-2-3 finish in the race. In the 400m it was Wilson who got the win with a time of 1:00.14, with
Gabriella Ostrander and
Alexandria Masden capping off the 1-2-3 finish.
The one hurdling event of the day was the 60m and again it was a 1-2-3 finish for Centre.
Serena McNeilly got the win with a time of 9.27, followed by
Rianne Moss and
Alexandria Masden.
In the women's 4x400m relay, the Colonels picked up the win as the team of Wilson, Moss, Ostrander and Masden combined for a time of 4:12.72 to finish in first place.
Moving to the distance races, Centre's
Adelyn Shupert finished second overall in the mile as she posted a time of 5:26.83. The women's 3000m was a showcase for Centre cross country as the Colonels placed seven of the top eight finishers, led by
Sophie Bouldin in first place at 10:32.52.
In throws,
Shelbi Valentine paced five Colonels in the shot put as she finished second overall with a mark of 40-7.5 (12.38m). In the weight throw, Centre had four of the top eight finishers, led by
Zoey Shahid-Scott as she recorded a throw of 45-1 (13.73m) to finish in second place.
Finally, in the jumping events, Hein capped off her excellent season debut by surpassing her previous school record in the long jump, posting a mark of 19-3 (5.87) to break last year's record mark by a quarter of an inch. The women's triple jump saw
Serena McNeilly get the win in a sign of things to come as she posted a mark of 39-6.5 (12.05m) to finish first overall. In the pole vault,
Lyla Bordwine cleared 10-6 (3.2m) to earn a second place finish. The last record to fall for the Colonels was in the high jump as McNeilly surpassed her previous top mark, clearing 5-9 (1.75m) to get the win alongside the record.
