Swimming & diving sweeps 2025 Senior Day

DANVILLE, Ky. – The regular season for Centre swimming & diving came to a close in Champions Hall with a sweep of fellow Division III Bluegrass foe Asbury University on Senior Day. 
 
The Colonel women had the largest margin of victory on Saturday as they defeated the Eagles 233-55. The men's squad also picked up a sizable win with a 202-75 drubbing of the visiting team. 

Four Centre women won multiple events and a total of 14 earned finishes at the top of the podium. The Colonels who earned the most wins were senior Callie West and Katie Bridwell. They both started the day with a win alongside Avery Gabbard and Natalie Cox in the 200 medley relay (1:51.82). 

West added wins in the 200 freestyle (1:57.94) and the 200 IM (2:11.47), while Bridwell tacked on a victory in the 200 backstroke (2:14.97) and joined Olivia Headley, Claire Ackerman, and Whitney Dollins for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.43). 

Four more freestyle wins came for the women in Gold & White. Samantha Coffey took first in the 1000 freestyle in 11:32.04, Headley won the 50 freestyle in 25.05, Katelynn Stanczyk was on top in the 100 freestyle in a time of 54.10, and Sarah Feild landed on the top of the podium in the 500 freestyle in 5:24.64. 

A total of two more butterfly event wins went the way of Centre. Cate Coartney won the 200 butterfly in 2:11.88 and Emma Daman topped the 100 butterfly in 1:01.11. 

There were still four more wins earned for the home team's women's side in the regular-season finale, with two in swimming events and two in diving events. Cox won the 100 breaststroke (1:09.13) and Caroline Lee won the 100 backstroke (1:00.14). Erin Dannemiller swept the diving events for the Colonel women with a 296.62 tally in the one-meter dive and a 191.77 score in the three-meter dive. 

The men of the Gold & White had nine different winners and two multiple-event winners.  

Jake Holmes was the multiple-event winner on the swimming side. He touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.43) and the 200 IM (2:02.35). 

Avery Balch continued his successful senior season on the boards with a sweep. The already NCAA bound diver scored 362.70 in his three-meter win and 324.90 in his one-meter dive victory. Justin Toth also had success for the diving Colonels with an NCAA cut in the three-meter dive (299.85).

Back to the swimming lanes, the Centre men also excelled in the freestyle events with three wins. Logen Black won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:42.96. Brady Miller was next with a time of 1:45.47 in a winning 200 freestyle effort. George Von Canon joined in with a top finish in the 500 freestyle (5:11.40). 

All but one of the other four wins for the Colonels were in the 200 yard distance. Ben Wafford won the 200 butterfly (2:04.03), Dustin Niebauer took first in the 200 backstroke (2:04.06), and Tiernan Moore claimed first in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.11). Hunter Crain added on a 100 butterfly win in 53.76 to round out the gold efforts. 
   
UP NEXT  
The Colonels are now headed to the postseason with the Southern Athletic Association Championships next on the calendar. The league championship will be hosted in Champions Hall on February 12-15.
