MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Centre women's basketball headed south to face Southern Athletic Association's (SAA) Rhodes in their regular season finale. Taking the lead early, the Colonels bettered the Lynx 66-54 to improve to a 17-7 mark, 8-3 in the league.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Lynx opened the scoring and were up 6-0 in the early minutes.
Emma Perna put Centre on the board with a long ball followed by
Bailey Rucker in the paint. A minute later, Rucker drained a three to jump start a 9-0 run featuring
Ryleigh Campbell,
Lilly Reid, and
Lindsay Jessie. In the remaining four minutes of period one, the Colonels outscored Rhodes 6-4, adjusting the score to 20-12, Centre favoring.
- The Gold & White continued dominate, stretching their lead to as much as 17 in the second frame. At the line, Jessie commenced a 15-4 stretch that was highlighted by a trio of threes from
Anna Thomas,
Arin Nipp, and Reid. The Lynx closed the first half's scoring, making it Centre 37, Rhodes 22 heading into the break.
- Opening the second half, both teams traded 6-0 runs, Rucker and Jessie responsible for Centre's. Out of the media timeout, Jessie netted four at the line and in the paint.
Ka'Niah Edelen followed suit with four herself to conclude the Colonels' third quarter scoring. Entering the final frame, Centre led 51-35.
- The Lynx favored in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Colonels 19-15. In the early minutes,
Katelyn Stiltner carried Centre. In the final minutes, Edelen fronted the team offensively. When regulation ran out, the score read Centre 66, Rhodes 54.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre held four athletes with double figure points. Jessie fronted the team with a game high of 13. Rucker followed with 12 while Edelen and Reid netted ten each.
- Stiltner led the team off the glass, tying for the game's leader in rebounds with eight.
- Edelen led the Colonels in assists with four.
- Campbell led the court in steals with two.
- Centre favored 30-13 in bench points.
