DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre baseball improved to 5-1 on the season as the Colonels defeated the Asbury Eagles 7-5 under the lights at Gary Wright Field.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The visiting Eagles got on the board first as they recorded a run and two hits in each of the first two innings, with the first run coming on a bases loaded hit by pitch.
- It didn't take Centre long to cut the lead in half as
Aaron Lopez uncorked a deep one that hit off the bottom of the scoreboard for a solo homer that made it 2-1.
- In the third,
Ben Prather led off with a base hit and stole second.
Evan Weyler then gave the Kerns the lead with a mammoth two-run homer. The rally continued as Centre got runners on the corners after singles from
Evan Rygalski and
Baylor Woodall. Lopez then came to the plate and went the other way for a base hit to make it 4-2 in favor of the Colonels.
- Centre put two men on in the fourth on a Prather single and a
Chase Austin hit by pitch. Rygalski then smashed a ball to deep center field that ricocheted off the fielder's glove for a two-run triple. Rygalski was later driven in as Woodall delivered an infield hit for a 7-2 Centre lead.
- Asbury made a game of it in the sixth as they scored three runs on four hits and a walk, but
Zach Heavern shut the door on the rally to keep it a 7-5 ballgame.

TJ Schira came on in the ninth and struck out the final two batters to record the save.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Six Centre players picked up multiple hits in the win, led by Prather and Lopez with three each.
- Freshman
Isaac Rone got the start and the win in his first career appearance as he struck out five in four innings of work, helping the Centre pitching staff rack up 12 total strikeouts.

Centre will begin a three-game weekend series with Rose-Hulman on Friday.
