DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre baseball extended its winning streak to five in a row as the Colonels earned a 14-4 run rule victory over Rose-Hulman in eight innings.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Engineers got on the board first in the opening inning but the Centre offense quickly recaptured the lead.
Ayden Lohr led off with a single up the middle and
Evan Weyler lined a base hit the opposite way. A walk to
Aaron Lopez loaded the bases and
Baylor Woodall lifted a deep fly ball to center field that the wind carried over the fence for a grand slam and a 4-1 lead for the Colonels.
- After RHIT cut the lead to 4-3 in the second, Centre added to the lead in their half off the inning, putting two men on after a
Matthew Maggard walk and an error.
Ben Prather delivered a shot up the middle for a base hit to drive in Maggard. Weyler and
Evan Rygalski were then hit by consecutive pitches, with the latter allowing Lohr to score to make it 6-3.
- Weyler manufactured another run in the fourth as he worked a one-out walk, stole second and later scored on an error as Rygalski beat out an infield hit. After Lopez walked again,
JT Weisberg hit a fly ball that went over the outfielders' heads and Centre took a 9-3 lead.
- The Colonels made it a 10-3 game in the sixth when Maggard lined an opposite field base hit to score pinch runner
Carson Mire, who entered the game after Rygalski's leadoff single.
- Leading 10-4 in the eighth, the Colonels staged a two-out rally as a Rose-Hulman error allowed
Jamison Craig to score and opened the floodgates for the Centre bats. With Lohr on second following the error, Prather connected on an RBI double to make it 12-4. Weyler smacked the next pitch for a base hit and another RBI. Following a wild pitch that moved Weyler to second,
Jonah Porter went the other way with a single to secure the run rule win.
