DANVILLE, Ky. – No. 13 Centre baseball got back to its winning ways as the bats came alive and the Colonels knocked off a Spalding squad that was receiving votes in the latest ABCA poll. Centre picked up the win by a score of 11-8.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- With the wind gusting out of the ballpark early, the visiting Golden Eagles took advantage in the first inning as they took a 2-0 lead on a home run that carried over the left field fence.
- The Colonels answered back with a crooked number in the bottom of the inning. Walks to
Ben Prather,
Evan Rygalski and
Chase Austin loaded the bases with two outs.
Baylor Woodall then sent everybody home on a double into the gap and later scored on a two-base error to put Centre on top 4-2.
- Leading 4-3 in the third, Centre put runners on the corners and Prather connected on a base hit up the middle to score
JT Weisberg. Prather then stole second to give the Colonels runners on second and third.
Evan Weyler legged out a hustle double for two more RBIs to give Centre a 7-3 lead.
- The Golden Eagles cut the deficit in half in the top of the fifth before the Colonels responded with yet another crooked number.
Aaron Lopez and
Forrest Day delivered consecutive RBI singles to make it 9-5 again just like that. A walk to
Ayden Lohr loaded the bases for Prather, who was hit by a pitch for his second RBI of the day and a 10-5 advantage for the Colonels.
- Centre added to the lead in the sixth when Austin led off with a double down the line, eventually scoring on another RBI single from Day to make it 11-5.
- Spalding added some late runs in the final three innings, but in his fourth inning of work,
Zach Heavern recorded two strikeouts, including the final putout to seal the win.
