ATLANTA - The Centre baseball team hit the road for the second weekend in a row in conference play as they took on the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels. Both games in Saturday's doubleheader went to the Petrels by scores of 5-4 and 1-0.
Game 1: Oglethorpe 5, Centre 4
- The Colonels built their lead early as
Chase Austin led off the second inning with a base hit to the opposite field and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by
JT Weisberg.
- In the fourth, Centre put runners on second and third following a leadoff walk by
Jamison Craig and a double by
Aaron Lopez. Weisberg got his second RBI of the day on a sac fly and Centre tacked on two more runs after a double from
Ayden Lohr and a single from
Ben Prather to make it 4-0.
- Oglethorpe rallied for four runs with two outs in the fifth to tie the game and then things cooled down until the eighth, when another two-out hit drove in the go-ahead run for the Petrels.
- Centre put two men on in the ninth after a pinch hit single from
Jonah Porter and another base hit by Austin, but the Colonels grounded out to end the game.
Game 2: Oglethorpe 1, Centre 0
- The second game of the doubleheader belonged to both pitchers as Oglethorpe's only run came in the bottom of the second on a wild pitch.
-
Harrison Cowdrey went the distance for the Colonels, pitching his way out of bases loaded jams in the fourth and sixth innings to keep Centre in the game.
- Centre did not register a hit in the game until the fifth, and then in the sixth, the Colonels got runners on the corners after Lopez reached on an error and Prather lined a base hit up the middle, but the clutch hit never came in this one and Centre went down in order in the seventh.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORES
- Austin led all players with three hits in game 1 and provided the other Centre hit in game 2.
- Game 2 represented Centre's first shutout loss of the year and the fewest hits in a game this season.
