DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre baseball team upped its win streak to seven games after defeating the Rose-Hulman Engineers 3-1 in a pitching duel to complete the series sweep.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels struck first in the second as
Baylor Woodall and
Jonah Porter delivered consecutive two-out singles, the latter coming on a hit and run that put runners on the corners. One wild pitch later, Woodall crossed the plate and Centre held a 1-0 lead.
- Centre kept the engineers at bay until the fourth when they tied the game after two hits and an error.
- From there, pitching and defense was the story of the game as the stalemate continued over the next three innings. Centre relied mostly on strikeouts to keep the score tied, while Rose-Hulman made several diving plays in the infield to prevent Centre hits.
- In the seventh, Woodall started another Centre rally with a base hit, eventually scoring the go-ahead run on a clutch single from pinch hitter
Chase Austin.
- Centre tacked on another run in the eighth when
Evan Weyler hit a double down the right field line and scored on a Rose-Hulman error to make it 3-1.
-
TJ Schira came on in the ninth and slammed the door shut for his second save of the season.
