Colonels sweep no. 13 Rhodes in doubleheader to open SAA play

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre baseball opened the conference portion of the 2025 season by honoring the 2024 Southern Athletic Association championship team. They then pulled off the doubleheader sweep of the no. 13 Rhodes Lynx, winning 9-2 in game 1 and 4-0 in game 2.

Game 1: Centre 9, Rhodes 2

- The Colonels got on the board first in the bottom of the second with a two-out rally that started with a walk from Baylor Woodall. Jamison Craig kept the inning alive with a base hit and then JT Weisberg lifted a fly ball that went over the center fielder's head for a two-run double and a 2-0 Centre lead.
- Rhodes battled back to tie it in the fourth, doing so with one swing of the bat on a two-run home run. Harrison Cowdrey avoided further damage and the Centre offense went back to work in the bottom of the inning.
- Woodall led off the fourth with a bunt single. After advancing to second when Ayden Lohr was hit by a pitch, a two-out Rhodes error allowed him to score and Centre regained the lead at 3-2.
- From there, the game belonged to the Colonels, who staged another two-out rally in the sixth. Ben Prather got it going with a triple off the center field wall. Evan Weyler ripped a base hit through the left side for an RBI and then scored after Jonah Porter hit a double off the big wall in left to make it 5-2 in favor of Centre.
- Centre tacked on two more in the seventh as Woodall singled again and scored on a three-base error from the Lynx that resulted in Craig on second. Lohr delivered a two-out single to plate the freshman right fielder and give Centre a 7-2 lead.
- Weyler led off the Centre eighth with a double off the wall in left field, eventually scoring on a groundout from Aaron Lopez. With the bases empty, Chase Austin delivered a massive solo home run to cap off the scoring.

Game 2: Centre 4, Rhodes 0 (7 innings)

- Just like in the first game, Centre got off to the fast start. Prather, who shut the Lynx down in order on the mound to start the game, lined one up the middle for a base hit and scored when Austin went the other way for a double into the gap to make it 1-0.
- The Colonels doubled up the lead in the second when Lohr left no doubt on a solo home run for his team-leading third long ball of the season and Centre held a 2-0 lead.
- Things settled down over the next few innings until Centre made some more noise in the fifth. With Weisberg on third following a hit and an error, Prather delivered another bit hit with an RBI single up the middle. Another error put Prather on third and Weyler drove him in with an RBI groundout to make it 4-0.
- Prather then retired the side in each of the next two innings to wrap up the shutout.
