DANVILLE, Ky.- On Sunday, the Colonels returned to Andy Frye Stadium to host their second SAA opponent of the year, Southwestern. Although the Pirates struck first, Centre men's lacrosse delivered a 13-7 win, improving to 2-0 in the league.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Pirates opened the game's scoring two minutes and held the lead for five minutes until
David Caldwell netted two consecutively, the first assisted by
Jack Forrester, the second from
Ryan Hall. Southwestern answered with two points that closed the frame, moving the score to 3-2, the Pirates leading.
- Centre took control in the second period, outscoring their opponents 6-1 in the 15-minutes before half.
Ryan Black and Caldwell teamed up for a 5-0 tear for the Colonels, Black with three goals, Caldwell with two. The Pirates found the back of the net with three minutes to go in the quarter, but
Ben Hubbs answered with the feed from Forrester. Entering the break, Centre held a four-point lead.
- The third period was the lowest scoring yet, both teams netting one goal apiece. Black set up Hubbs for the Colonels' only point, moving the score to 9-5 entering the final quarter.
- Centre bettered the Pirates 4-2 in the fourth period. Southwestern scored two early but couldn't place another shot for the rest of the game. The Colonels trailed away with four unanswered goals to close the game, one from
Max Speers, another from
Graysen Jolly, and a pair from Caldwell. With time ran out, the score read Centre 13, Southwestern seven.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Caldwell led the game in both goals with six and points with eight.
- Black and Hubbs had four points each. Black scored three and assisted one while Hubbs netted two and helped two.

Luca Bowling represented Centre at the face-off the entire game. The rookie dominated with 15-22 wins.
- Speers led the game in caused turnovers with two.
- From the wings,
Holden Techet led the game in ground balls with six.
- In goal,
Hayden Burns tallied 11 saves and led the Colonels to 21-24 clears.
