DANVILLE, Ky. - The no. 25 Centre baseball team kept the hot streak going, making a statement win against no. 13 Rhodes by a score of 22-10 in seven innings to complete the series sweep and start conference play on the highest note.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Early on, it looked like the day would belong to the visiting Lynx, who jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first three innings, hitting a pair of two-run homers in the top of the third.
- In the bottom of the third, the Colonels loaded the bases with nobody out following walks to
Aaron Lopez and
Jamison Craig and a single by
JT Weisberg.
Ben Prather and
Evan Weyler each drew walks with the bases loaded for RBIs to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Evan Rygalski then sent everybody home with a huge grand slam over the left field wall to put Centre on top 6-5.
- The rally in the third continued as
Chase Austin reached second on an error, eventually scoring on a base hit by Craig to cap off a wild inning with a 7-5 Centre lead.
- Centre went right back to work in the fourth as
Ayden Lohr led off with an infield hit and Prather doubled to put runners on second and third. An RBI fielder's choice by Weyler plated Centre's eighth run of the day. Rygalski then drove in his fifth run of the game on a sac fly to make it 9-5. A base hit from Austin doubled up the score, and then following walks to the next two batters, Craig was hit by a pitch for another RBI and an 11-5 lead for the Colonels.
- Rhodes answered back with a pair of runs in the fifth, but Centre's offense responded in a huge way. Lohr manufactured the first run of the inning as he worked a leadoff walk, stole second, advanced to third and scored on a wild pitch. Weyler and Rygalski each walked and Austin was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Baylor Woodall and Lopez then worked consecutive walks for a pair of RBIs. Craig drove in another run on a hit by pitch to make it 15-7 before Weisberg singled through the left side to drive in two more. Centre added to the lead with an RBI groundout from Prather and a base hit from Weyler to make it 19-7.
- The Colonels emptied the bench in the later innings and continued to add to the lead as they got three more runs courtesy of a ground-rule double from
Jonah Porter and RBI groundouts from
Matthew Maggard and
Forrest Day to wrap up the scoring for Centre.
