LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Centre baseball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end as a valiant comeback fell short in a 6-5 loss against the Spalding Golden Eagles on the road.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Golden Eagles manufactured a run in the bottom of the second on a walk and a two-out single to take a 1-0 lead.
- Centre answered back in the fourth as
Jonah Porter doubled the other way to lead off, advanced to third and eventually scored on a base hit by
Evan Weyler to tie the game.
- The next two innings belonged to Spalding as the home team rallied for three runs with two outs in the fifth, with the final two happening on a two-base error, and then tacked on two more in the sixth to make it 6-1.
- The Colonels began a fierce comeback in the seventh as
Aaron Lopez and pinch hitter
Michael Lynch singled.
Ben Prather came up and connected on a double into the gap to score Lopez and pinch runner
Justin Bass to make it 6-3. After a single from
Ayden Lohr, the Spalding bullpen lost control as three wild pitches allowed two more runners to score to cut it to 6-5.
- The final threat came in the ninth as
Evan Rygalski and Prather each singled to start the inning. A sac bunt advanced the runners and Porter was intentionally walked to load the bases as Spalding set up for a double play. The Colonels were one swing of the bat away from taking the lead, but the hit never came and Spalding picked up the victory.

Graham Johnson each finished with a game high two hits.
