DANVILLE, Ky. – Home runs were the theme of the day as no. 13 Centre baseball used the long ball to pull off a doubleheader sweep against Sewanee, winning by scores of 19-4 and 9-2 on Senior Day to sweep the series.
Game 1: Centre 19, Sewanee 4 (7 innings)
- The Colonels dug an early hole in the opening inning as they fell behind 3-0 before their first at-bat. When Centre came to the plate,
Ben Prather and
Ayden Lohr led off with consecutive singles to put runners on the corners, with Prather scoring on an RBI groundout by
Jonah Porter to make it 3-1.

Isaac Rone entered the game in the second inning with the bases loaded and one out, and got out of the jam with consecutive strikeouts to keep the Tigers off the board.
- In the second,
Chase Austin legged out an infield hit on a high chopper to the second baseman. With two outs in the inning,
Aaron Lopez blasted a home run over the big fence in left field to tie the game at 3-3.
- Centre put two men on in the third after Porter walked and
Evan Weyler lined one up the middle for a base hit.
Graham Johnson hit a blooper for the first Centre run of the inning. One batter later, a deep fly ball from Austin produced a run after a wild outfield throw.
Baylor Woodall capped off the rally with an RBI single that scored Johnson and Centre led 6-3.
- Prather and Lohr kickstarted a wild fourth inning with consecutive solo homers to give Centre an 8-3 lead. The Colonels then loaded the bases following singles from Porter and Weyler and a hit by pitch. Austin drove in a run with a sac fly. A bunt single from Woodall and a throwing error made it 10-3. JT Weisberg walked, Lohr was hit by a pitch for another RBI.
- The run continued as Porter connected on a double into the gap to clear the bases. The Colonels then made history as Weyler, Johnson and Austin left the yard consecutively to cap off a 13-run frame.
- That was all the offense Centre needed as seniors
Cam Tegge and
Perry Nadreau pitched the final two innings to lock up the victory.
Game 2: Centre 9, Sewanee 2 (7 innings)
- Prather got the start in the second game and retired the side in the first inning. He then got the Centre offense off to a hot start with a leadoff double, ending up on third after an error. Centre quickly took a 1-0 lead on Lohr's RBI groundout.
- With two outs in the second, the Colonels showcased their power once again as Woodall and Lopez connected on back-to-back solo home runs to make it 3-0 in favor of the home team.
- Lohr added to the lead in the third inning as he belted his third home run of the series to put the Colonels on top 4-0.
- Sewanee cut the lead in half with a two-run homer of their own in the top of the fourth, but Centre answered in the bottom half of the inning. With runners on first and second, Weisberg delivered a base hit up the middle to score Woodall. After Weisberg stole second, Prather came up with another clutch single for two RBIs and Centre took a 7-2 lead.
- Centre missed out on yet another home run by a matter of feet as Weyler had to settle for a double after his deep fly ball hit off the top of the center field wall. He eventually scored on an opposite field single from Johnson to make it 8-2.
- Prather manufactured the final run of the day for Centre as he worked a leadoff walk, stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored on a sac fly by Lohr.

TJ Schira came on in relief of Prather to retire the Tigers in order in the seventh.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORES
- Centre finished with nine home runs in today's doubleheader. Their six home runs in game 1 are a program single game record, and the Colonels also set school records for most home runs in an inning (5) and most consecutive home runs (3).
- The Colonels sent 16 hitters to the dish in the fourth inning of game 1, accounting for 13 runs on ten hits.
- Lohr led the Colonels with five RBIs in the doubleheader.
- Rone got the win in game 1 with 3.2 shutout innings of relief.
- Prather picked up his fourth win of the season in game 2, allowing just the two-run homer in the fourth while striking out four in six innings.

The Colonels will return to action on Apr. 22 with a road game against Asbury. Centre is 2-0 against Asbury this season, winning 7-5 on Feb. 25 and 14-7 on Mar. 11.
