Women's track breaks three records in win at Centre Invite

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's track & field had an outstanding day at the Centre Invitational as the Colonels set three new program records on the way to a commanding victory.
 
The Colonels finished with 286 points on the day to take first place, nearly doubling up second place Wittenberg.
 
In the sprints, All-American Madjo Doumbia broke a pair of her previous school records, winning the 200m with a time of 24.42 and the 400m with a time of 57.08. The 100m saw All-American long jumper Chloe Hein win with a time of 12.35. Amari Robinson finished third in the 200m and sixth in the 100m, while Faith Peterson finished sixth in the 200m. Alanna Masden finished seventh in the 200m to cap off a huge scoring outburst in the sprint races.
 
Another huge scoring group of events were the middle and long distance races. In the 800m, Kate Keller finished third with a time of 2:25.14, followed by Adelyn Shupert in fourth and Erin Haugh in sixth. The 1500m saw Haugh win with a time of 4:51.14, followed by Emma Musgrave in eighth. The 5k had a 1-2-3 finish for the Colonels. Gracie West got the win with a time of 18:15.88, followed by Cara Taylor in second, Claire Barnett in third, Anna Yates in fifth and Caroline Buckle in eighth. Centre finished with the top two times in the 10k as well as Marissa Polio won in 42:48.40, followed by Lily Matthiessen in second. Centre had six of the eight scoring times in the 3000m steeplechase, led by Rachel Gaynor in second place with a time of 12:32.63, with Layce Sanner in third, Lauren Wright in fifth, Maddie Riley in sixth, Sarah Pape in seventh and Abbott Renfro in eighth.
 
In the 100m hurdles, Alexandria Masden finished second with a time of 15.81, followed by Callie Gormley in fourth and Janea Bottinelli in sixth. Bottinelli later won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.43, with Arden Campbell in third, Alexandria Masden in fourth and Annabelle Tarter in sixth.
 
The final record to go down came in the 4x100m relay as the team of Robinson, Bottinelli, Hein and Doumbia broke the record by the 2024 squad with a time of 47.88. In the 4x400m relay, Alexandria Masden replaced Robinson in the foursome and the squad picked up the win with a time of 3:56.97.
 
In the long jump, Doumbia, competing in her fifth event of the day, finished second overall with a mark of 16-6, followed by Gormley in third and Campbell in seventh. The pole vault saw Lyla Bordwine finish third overall with a clear of 10-0.75 (3.07m). In the high jump, Claire Ackerman cleared 4-9 (1.45m) to finish fifth.
 
Moving onto throws, Zoey Shahid-Scott posted a mark of 38-1.25 (11.61m) to finish second in the shot put, followed by Caeley Wilson in third and Lindsay Jessie in fifth. In the discus it was Jessie with the high mark as she finished second with a throw of 115-1 (35.07m) to finish second, with Lindsey Browning in fifth and Shahid-Scott in sixth. In the hammer Jessie finished second again with a mark of 137-2 (41.80m), followed by Browning in third, Kellaiah Laurent in seventh and Kendra Bizzell in eighth. Finally, in the javelin, Gormley finished third with a throw of 99-5 (30.31m), with Dayanara Mendez taking sixth.
