MEMPHIS, Tenn.- On Friday evening, the Centre men's lacrosse team entered the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament after bypassing the Quarterfinals as the No. 2 Seed. After a close battle, the Colonels fell to Sewanee by a score of 10-9.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Tigers opened the game with four unbroken goals to take an early and commanding lead.
David Caldwell eventually put Centre on the board with an unassisted goal ten minutes in. Sewanee tallied one additional point before the end of the frame, bringing the score to 5-1 entering period two.
- The Colonels caught traction early in the second period, opening with a trio of unanswered goals to bring Centre within one.
Noah Malubay scored the first point followed by Caldwell.
Ryan Hall capped the Colonels 3-0 tear before the Tigers closed the half with a goal in the final 20 seconds, binging the score to 6-4, Sewanee leading.
- Caldwell initiated the third period's scoring 12 minutes into the frame and with just one minute to go,
Graysen Jolly tied the game at 6-6 during a man-up opportunity.
- In the final period, the Tigers were the first to find the back of the net, repossessing the lead with a goal five minutesin. Less than a minute later,
Ben Hubbs evened the score, but the Tigers answered in their next possession, doubling the deficit with a second point a minute later. Jolly and Hall tallied two goals back-to-back to even it back up but the Tigers were the last to strike. Scoring the final goal with two minutes left on the clock, Sewanee better the Colonels 10-9.
