For the third straight season, Centre Men's Soccer took on Hanover in the JR Hoe Invitational in Louisville. The Colonels were looking for back-to-back wins in the series, but it was not meant to be as Hanover took the match by a 2-0 result.
Luca Andrews had the first go at goal for Centre in the 10th minute but was denied just ahead of the goal line. The Colonels next viable chance came in minute 26 when CC Portillo had a go but was also turned away. Hanover would eventually break the tie with a tally in the 38th minute that would carry into the 2nd half.
Physicality became more of a story in the 2nd half as the teams combined for 4 yellow cards and 13 fouls. Hanover doubled its lead with another goal in the 69th minute. Centre's offense struggled in the half, failing to muster a single shot on goal until the 73rd minute when
AJ Daniels nearly went upper-90 but was turned away by the Hanover keeper.
Jack Robson and
Jacob Tyler each had tries late but none were on target.
Centre's defense was also tough throughout the game, only allowing 3 shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Grayson Parish tallied a lone save in taking the loss.
The Colonels will look to earn a split in the JR Hoe Invitational with a matchup against Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday. Kickoff from Louisville is set for 5:30pm.
