Men's Soccer fell in its final outing in the 2025 JR Hoe Invitational by way of a 2-1 result against Illinois Wesleyan.
The Colonels nearly had an early tally as a shot from
Jason Weisheit just sailed wide of the upper-90 in the 2nd minute. IWU countered with shots on Colonel keeper,
Grayson Parish, in the 4th and 12th minutes, but Parish stonewalled both. In minute 16, IWU was able to slip a shot past Parish to get on the board. They added a 2nd less than 3 minutes later for a 2-goal edge.
Jacob Tyler looked to get one back just past the 20th minute, but the shot was tipped over the bar by the IWU keeper. He had another go at goal in the 27th minute but was again turned away.
Amit Shahar had a chance on the rebound but pushed the shot wide right. It proved the final threat for either side in the half as IWU took the 2-0 lead to the break.
Centre kicked in the urgency to start the 2nd half. The rise paid off just 2:28 into the half. IWU was called for a foul in the box to set up a Colonel penalty kick.
Finnegan Deem-Ranzetta stepped up to the spot and calmly buried the try to get the Colonels on the board. Centre nearly had the equalizer in the 54th minute as
Jacob Tyler looked for the upper-90 once more but was turned back again.
The Colonels then began to ramp up the physicality in an effort to break down IWU. It gave Centre advancement into the forward half but momentum was tough to maintain thanks to 4 yellow cards in the final 30 minutes. Deem-Ranzetta and
Dominic Do had Centre's last best chances for the equalizer in the waning minutes, but it was not meant to be as the Colonels dropped their 2nd straight to start the year.
The team will look to regroup ahead of the Bob Allen Invitational next weekend at Amend Field. The Colonels first take to the pitch on Friday night against Nebraska Wesleyan starting at 7:45pm.
