After a scoreless first half at Denison, Centre looked like it was headed for a 6th straight win after an early 2nd half goal. The Big Red had other ideas as they scored the equalizer in the 82nd minute to draw 1-1 against the Colonels.
Offense was hard to come by for the Colonels on this day as Centre mustered just 3 shots total, 2 on goal. Denison's offense fired early and often as
Madeline Redmon's first 2 saves came inside the first 20 minutes. Denison had another shot go wide in the 23rd minute, and nearly had a goal in the 30th minute, but the Colonels back line was able to clear a ball off the line for a team save. Neither team registered another shot on target for the rest of the half.
Centre's offense found paydirt in the 56th minute. A shot from
Lily Burchett was knocked away by the Denison keeper, but right on to the foot of
Riley Givens for a tap-in goal. Her 4th goal of the season gave the Colonels the 1-0 lead. The Centre D held tough until the 82nd minute when a pinball deflection inside the box allowed a shot that just slipped by the outstretched arm of Redmon for the tying tally. Centre had a corner kick in the final minute but could not gather a quality attempt on goal for the potential winner.
In total, the Colonels were outshot 16-3 on the day, including 6-2 on goal.
Madeline Redmon made 4 saves in helping the Colonels come away with the draw.
Centre now heads to Cincinnati on Sunday for a matchup against Mount St. Joseph. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm.
