Centre College Esports kicked off its 2025-26 season with Marvel Rivals, Rocket League, and Valorant matchups for the first 2 weekends. Here is how the Colonels performed:
Marvel Rivals vs USC Aiken (9/7/25) : Loss 3-0
After some technical difficulties, Centre was forced to forfeit the first round in the best-of-5 series. The second round opened with Centre on the offensive. They managed to reliably single out USCA players before committing to a team engagement which gave them the numbers advantage needed to capture the first stage of the objective at neck-break speed. After pushing the objective halfway to the next checkpoint, USCA managed to find a remarkable opportunity to dig in and stop Centre's advancement until the end of the half. After switching sides, Centre was able to put up a valiant defense with several hail mary saves, but would eventually lose the round to USCA.
In the third round, Centre faced an incredibly strong defensive composition from USCA. Despite trying a few different approaches, Centre was unable to find the correct response to USCA's strategy and wouldn't push the objective a notable distance. The lack of progress in the first half left Centre in a dire situation that simply could not be remedied before USCA won the round and series.
Marvel Rivals vs Kennesaw State (9/14/25) : Loss 3-0
In the first round of the series, Centre tried to use a strategy that employed flanks and closing distance while KSU used characters that specialized in long distance and sustained damage. This meant Centre struggled to actually get close enough to execute any planned maneuvers. This inability persisted even after making composition changes that would rival the range of KSU's composition. Even after taking a loss in the first round, Centre tried to use a flank oriented strategy again that was ruthlessly shut down before Centre could make any real progress towards the objective, giving KSU the second round. In the final round, Centre was unable to correctly locate and eliminate certain targets. KSU was attacking from all angles and Centre was flustered. Without proper footing, Centre lost the final round and series.
Rocket League vs Embry-Riddle Aeronautical (9/7/25) : Loss 3-0 (4-5, 1-2, 1-4)
Fresh off their NECC Div6 and PBC Champions Conference wins last year, Centre RL has been promoted to the A division of PBC and is now competing against some of the heavy hitters of collegiate rocket league. This first match showcased the strength of this new division. ERAU has the 2nd highest average rank in the conference, only behind Kennesaw State. Despite this, the colonels kept things close. 2 of the 3 games were lost by only one goal. A standout play came from Sush in game 1 where he managed to sink a precise long-distance shot into the top right corner from off a pass from ACKess to tie the score. Sush totaled 7 shot attempts across the 3 rounds, while Duoxy and ACKess made their mark on defense with 9 and 6 saves respectively.
Rocket League vs Huntingdon (9/14/25) : Loss 3-0 (2-3, 1-4, 0-1)
Huntingdon College is ranked 3rd highest of the teams in PBC Rocket League. Duroxy scored the first goal of game 1, but HC answered back with two of their own. With 19 seconds left and 0 boost, Sush tied things up. The ensuing overtime was the standout moment of the match—a whopping 4 minutes and 36 seconds of constant back and forth and near misses. HC was able to keep up a consistent pressure across in the next two games in large part due to their boost management—constantly stealing boost from the colonels' side of the field and using their boost more conservatively. Centre's players spent a great deal of the series with 0 boost in the tank, so when offensive opportunities presented themselves, the Colonels often lacked the resources to follow up quickly.
Valorant vs Indiana State (9/15/25) : Win 1-0 (15-13)
The Centre Colonels started their NECC season with a bang, pulling off a hard fought 15–13 overtime win on Lotus against Indiana State in round 1 of the play-in tournament. After falling behind 7–12, Aaron Klein ("performative man") came up huge with a clutch 4K, using space perfectly to flip the momentum and keep Centre alive. That play sparked the comeback, pushing the Colonels into overtime. From there, Houston Mountjoy ("space city") stepped up big, stringing together three straight round-winning plays to seal the victory. With a roster full of new faces making their debut, the Colonels showed grit, confidence, and teamwork, turning a tough deficit into a statement opening win.
Valorant vs Arkansas State University Mountain Home (9/15/25) : Win 1-0 (13-8)
The Centre Colonels carried their momentum into the second match of the night with a solid 13–8 win on Ascent against ASUMH. First down by 1–4, Aaron Klein ("performative man") shifted the match with a huge 4K that swung momentum back to Centre again for the night. From that point on, the Colonels took control, giving up only one round in the entire second half.
Huston Mountjoy ("space city") provided steady fragging while
Vedant Bhagat ("Klippy") and Briggs ("Drag") backed him up with consistent support. With back-to-back wins, the Colonels' new roster made a strong debut, completing the placement bracket 2-0.
