After a successful trip to North Carolina that saw Centre pick up its first win of the year over Warren Wilson, the Colonels looked to continue their road momentum Friday night at DePauw. It was not meant to be as Centre was shut out, 3-0, by the Tigers, to fall to 1-3-3 on the season.
DePauw needed less than 6 minutes to get on the board as the Tigers were able to slip a shot past Centre's
Declan Miller in goal for the early lead. The Colonels' first threat came in the 22nd minute on a shot from
Amit Shahar, but it was not meant to be. After a host of substitutes in the 29th minute, DePauw was able to eventually pick up a 2nd goal in the 35th minute on the back end of a corner kick to double its lead to 2. The Tigers went for 3 in the 42nd minute, but Miller was there for the stop to keep the Colonels deficit at 2 heading to the second half.
The Colonels' best chance at a tally came in the 49th minute as both
Jacob Tyler and
Finnegan Deem-Ranzetta had good looks just 33 seconds apart. Luck was not on the Colonels' side as both tries were turned away.
Zeke Saviello went for one early in the 50th minute but sent the ball sailing high and wide. Centre's final threat for a goal came as the night approached the 70th minute.
Tyler Smith and Deem-Ranzetta had shots that nearly went in but just could not find a way to sum up a frustrating night. DePauw added another goal in the 84th minute for the final tally.
Centre stays on the road this Sunday as the lads travel to Granville, OH to take on Denison. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm.
