Emily Ritchie scored a total of 3 goals in each of her first 3 seasons at Centre. On Saturday against Kenyon, Ritchie decided it was the day to equal those goal numbers all at once. She scored twice in the first period and later finished the hat trick as the Colonels rolled by Kenyon, 4-0, to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Ritchie was involved from the get go, taking 2 penalty corner inside the first 3 minutes. Her first goal of the day came at the 4:32 mark of the 1st as she and the Colonels never looked back. After another penalty corner at 14:12, Ritchie took a feed from
Philine Bolt for another goal just 14 seconds later to give Centre a 2-0 lead after 1.
Kenyon tried to respond in the 2nd as it fired early and often on
Addie Sheridan in goal. The freshman shined though in her first start as she tallied 6 saves in the period to preserve the shutout going into the 2nd half.
Eliza Hensley took over in goal for the 3rd and saw the lead grow to 3 in the 34th minute as
Claire Martin scored off a pass from
Tori Drepaul. Hensley was then tested as she was forced to make 5 saves in just under 3 minutes as Kenyon could not find the net.
In the 4th, Centre decided it was time for more its own attack. The Colonels put 5 shots on goal in the first 8 minutes. The pressure kept on until Ritchie closed out her career day with the hat trick in the 58th minute. She nearly had a 4th with 20 seconds to play but was denied as the Colonels closed out the win.
In total, Centre goalies stopped all 13 shots faced while the offense went quiet in the 2nd and 3rd periods, combining for a single shot. The Colonels bounced back in the 4th with a 10-1 shot margin.
Centre looks to keep the momentum rolling on Sunday at Ohio Wesleyan with a scheduled noon start time.
