Lily Burchett continued her strong start to the 2025 campaign with the game-winner in Centre's 1-0 win over Wilmington to push the Colonels to a perfect 3-0 record.
Centre dominated the ball for most of the day at Amend Field, possessing it over 60% for much of the day. Burchett capitalized on one of Centre's 14 first-half shots in the 20th minute to break the early tie. The Colonels got 3 more shots on target in the first half but were denied additions to the lead and carrying the single tally to the 2nd half.
The dominant ball possession also hampered Wilmington's ability to muster any consistent offensive push. The Quakers did not register a shot in the 2nd half until the 68th minute, but
Madeline Redmon was there to deny a potential equalizer. Centre turned its focus to defending over the final 20 minutes which showed as Wilmington only got a single shot off in that time, which was off-target as the Colonels closed out the shutout.
In total, the Colonels outshot the Quakers, 23-5, and had a 12-2 edge in corners.
Centre goes for its 4th straight win to start the 2025 campaign on Sunday as the Colonels head north to take on Depauw starting at 2:00pm.
