Colonels Win! with new career highs set

Danville, KY---- Centre with another win to close out the weekend, final score 76- 56 over Rhodes

At the start of the game, both teams traded baskets early, with Avery Marash and Kelsey Willingham scoring inside to help Rhodes jump out in front. Two three-pointers from Mackenzie McKown helped keep the momentum in favor of Rhodes.

A shift in momentum began as Centre began to lay on the defensive pressure and transition play, forcing turnovers and converting them into points in the paint. Late baskets by Isabelle Combs and back-to-back fast break layups by Tessa Miles capped an 8-0 Closing run for Centre.

Second quarter, Rhodes got to work early staying within striking distance with a basket from Ac Milam and steady play from the interior, but Centre leaned on its depth and free-throw shooting to create a greater margin.

Ka'Niah Edelen had a perfect 6-for-6 at the line in the period, with Lola Fouts three-pointer and an assist to spark a 7-0 run that pushed the Colonels' lead to seven and later extended to an 11-point lead by creating offense scoring from turnovers.

Rhodes responded late with baskets by Mackenzie McKown and Avery Marsh. Still, Centre answered with a final layup from Isabella Combs before Lynx's Marsh scored an at-the-buzzer basket to cut the deficit to six leading into halftime.

Coming out of the Half, the colonels took control opening with strong interior play and aggressive defense, as Edelen and Nipp scored early in the paint while forcing multiple turnovers. Steady free-throw shooting helped push the lead into double figures midway through the quarter.

Rhodes found some offense with baskets from Juliet Howell and Kelsey Willingham, but could not maintain a strong defense as Centre answered every turn with a layup from Isabelle Combs and back-to-back three pointers from Edelen and Campbell late in the period. A steal and buzzer-beating layup by Tessa Miles sent the colonels into the fourth with their largest lead of the game.

Rhodes opens the period through a three-pointer from Ac Milam, but Centre responded quickly with layups by Campbell and Edlen, followed by a three-pointer from Lola Fouts, which pushed the lead past 20 midway through the quarter.

Centre maintained a cushion lead through balanced scoring and steady defense, even when Rhodes found late buckets from Alyssa Bongiovanni and Kelsey Willingham. Centre closes out the game and secures a 76-56 win over Rhodes. Two Colonels had a good game today, with new career highs out of today's game #2 Tessa Miles had 14 points, and #20 Isabelle Combs had 10 points. The Colonels head on a four-game road period starting with Berry on January 16th.
