Centre Swim & Dive celebrated a stellar senior class on Friday night as 27 Colonels were honored before the night's tri-match against Transylvania and Cumberlands.
Centre swept the night against Transylvania but fell on both sides to Cumberlands in swim. Men's swim beat Transy 185-50 while falling to Cumberlands, 291-193. Centre Women beat Transy 203-36 but dropped to Cumberlands, 132-111. Centre Diving proved dominant as both the men & women owned the top of the leaderboard.
Diving got the night started as Centre flexed its muscle.
Erin Dannemiller won the 3-meter event with a total of 204.00 points.
Riley Taylor claimed 2nd (191.10) with
Sara Jean Postle in the 3rd position (189.98). On the men's 1-meter boards,
Rowan Fitzsimmons claimed the top spot with 311.55 points, less than a single point ahead of
Garrett George (310.73).
Brandon Anderson was 3rd (304.88) with
Ben Reynolds 4th (209.55) and
Garrett Urash 5th (202.28).
Once swimming got going, it was Centre's "B" team in the women's 200 medley relay claiming 2nd place. The quartet of
Roya Sanai,
Parker Reily,
Ava Gates and
Emma Daman beat out the "A" squad for the runner-up spot.
Distance was the name of the game for the first individual event. Centre's
Emma Meyer and
Gavin Schoeling each took 3rd in their respective races in the 1000 yard freestyle.
Katelynn Stanczyk was the Colonels' breakthrough swimmer as she grabbed a win in the 200 yard free in a time of 1:57.23.
Brady Miller finished 2nd in the men's event. Stanczyk won again later in the night in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.70.
Roya Sanai was 2nd with
Sophie Anderson,
Katie Bridwell, and
Natalie Cox finishing 4th-6th. Stanczyk capped off her strong night with a blistering anchor leg in the 200 free relay as she swam a split of 25.05 seconds, the fastest split of any in the entire race.
Just before the 100 back, Centre's men were all over the leaderboard in the 100 free.
Mason McCallum led the way with a time of 49.43 seconds to finish 2nd. The final times showed Colonels in every spot from 2nd all the way to 10th.
Jake Holmes was 3rd with
Logen Black 4th and
Tiernan Moore rounding out the top 5.
Brady Miller grabbed another 2nd in the 500 free in a final time of 4:39.97, just 1.65 seconds off the win.
Mikayla Pruett finished 3rd in the women's event.
In the women's 50 free, Centre claimed 2nd through 6th as
Olivia Headley nearly won the event with a time of 25.33 for the runner-up spot.
Natalie Cox was next at 25.39, followed by Libby Taylor (25.57),
Caroline Short (25.84), and
Lucy Lowe (25.99).
When the second round of diving began, Centre showed out from the start. In the women's 1-meter competition, the Colonels took the top 2 spots and 4 of the top 7.
Erin Dannemiller won the event with 219.38 points to sweep the night.
Riley Taylor was 2nd again with 197.03, followed by
Sara Jean Postle in 4th (175.50) and
Marissa Loster (157.28) in 7th. The late dive session also saw the Centre men clean house by sweeping the top 5 spots once more.
Garrett George won the 3-meter competition with 321.53 points.
Brandon Anderson was not far behind in 2nd at 300.75.
Rowan Fitzsimmons placed 3rd (244.58) with
Ben Reynolds 4th (206.33) and
Garrett Urash claiming 5th (193.80).
The Colonels now hit the road, starting on Saturday January 24th at Noon with a trip to Emory University in Atlanta.
