ATLANTA - The Southern Athletic Association released its weekly awards for track & field and Centre six-time All-American
Serena McNeilly was named Women's Field Athlete of the Week for meets held through Jan. 18 after a record-shattering meet.
At the Vanderbilt Invitational on Jan. 16, McNeilly competed in the pentathlon against a field of athletes from mostly Division I and had a fantastic day as she finished fifth out of 23 competitors while breaking a pair of program records in the process. In the high jump, she cleared 1.76 meters (5-9.25) to break her previous record in the event – set back in December at the season opener – by a quarter of an inch, also good enough to get the win. Later that day, McNeilly posted a new personal best mark in the long jump, finishing up at 5.73 meters (18-9.5) to finish second in the event. By the end of five events, McNeilly had accumulated 3,560 total points, which was the second record to fall, as she eclipsed her prior record in the pentathlon by nearly 200 points.

Coming out of the Vanderbilt Invitational, McNeilly is now ranked first in all of Division III in the pentathlon, second in the high jump and sixth in the long jump, to go along with a second place ranking in the triple jump.

Centre women's track & field will return to team competition on Jan. 24 with the Centre Indoor Showcase.
