Centre Swim & Dive competed in a rare mid-week meet thanks to last weekend's winter storm. The Colonels traveled to Georgia to take on Emory, who had both teams ranked in the top 5 in the country heading into the day.
Centre Men won 6 events and was just behind in the team standings with 122 points to 156 for Emory. Centre's Women had a tougher go and lost 198.5-79.5.
Jack Liau set a new school record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:51.04, breaking the record held by
Jackson Fears in 2022. Fears' time was 1:51.85. The record breaker also gave Liau the event win by 2.18 seconds. It is the first individual record Liau has broken this season and 3rd overall, as he was on two relay teams that set new records earlier in the season. He also finished a close 2nd in the 100 fly, just 0.56 seconds off the win.
Other men's highlights included
Brady Miller dominating the 1000 free in a time of 9:34.98 to win by nearly 9 seconds. Miller also won the 500 free event by nearly over 2 seconds.Â
Tiernan Moore took home the win in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:07.52 to win by 1.53 seconds.
Justin Toth dominated the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 365.33 points for a margin of victory of nearly 50 points.
Brandon Anderson,
Garrett George and
Rowan Fitzsimmons finished 3rd-5th, respectively. Fitzsimmons won the 3-meter with 339.98 points and was the only diver to finish with more than 300 points. Toth, George and Anderson went 3rd-5th.
Gavin Schoeling was runner-up in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.52.
In women's competition,
Caroline Lee continued her excellent season with a win in the 100 free in a time of 53.49 and was the only swimmer to go sub-54 seconds.
Olivia Headley finished 4th in 54.59 seconds. Headley also placed 5th in the 200 free. Lee also went 3rd in the 50 free.
Cate Coartney swam 2nd in the 200 fly in a time of 2:11.00. She was also runner-up in the 400 IM.
Sophia McCalla,
Caroline Short, and
Ava Fears were 4th, 5th, and 6th.
Ava Gates and
Natalie Cox finished 3rd and 4th in the 100 breaststroke.
Katelynn Stanczyk,
Emma Meyer, and
Vreni Reichard placed 3-5 in the 500 free.
Erin Dannemiller was the highest finishing diver as she placed 4th on the 1-meter board.
Riley Taylor was the team leader on the 3-meter with a 5th place effort.
The Colonels have a quick turnaround with a meet at Asbury scheduled for Saturday at Noon.
