DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre Women's Soccer continued its unbeaten start to the conference season on Friday night with a convincing 3-1 win over Maryville at Amend Field.
Centre went on the attack early and often, dominating the ball and field position throughout the first half.
Brooke Beasley had the first go on goal in the 2nd minute.
Caroline Zimlich had one in the 8th minute. Both were stopped, but the tone was set for much of the rest of the night.
Aida Bell nearly had a tally in the 18th minute when a shot from distance banged off the crossbar. The Colonels possessed the ball to the tune of 69% in the half and would be rewarded in the 39th minute. A tangle in the box amongst a host of players saw the ball deflect to
Ava Quinn on the doorstep for a tap-in goal to give Centre a deserved 1-0 lead going to halftime.
Maryville got its game together to start the 2nd half, culminating in an equalizing goal in the 50th minute. Centre needed some time to respond and would do so in the 56th minute.
Savannah Mooney fed a perfect cross into the box, where
Ellery Taylor was waiting on the back post and laid a perfect header into the goal to retake the lead at 2-1. Minutes later,
Madeline Redmon had to make a key stop on a ball in close to keep the Colonels ahead. Centre would slowly shore up its defense and would put the game away in the 89th minute.
Zara McCarthy continued her torrid run with her 8th goal of the season off a long run forward to seal the 3 points for the Colonels.
Centre's offense manufactured 19 total shots to just 6 for the Scots to go with 7 corners.
Madeline Redmon made 4 stops as Centre moved to 13 points in league play.
The Colonels close out the home portion of the schedule on Sunday with a fixture against Sewanee starting at 11:00am.
