MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Second half goals from
Aida Bell and
Zara McCarthy propelled Centre to a 2-0 win over Berry on Friday night as league play begins.
Claire Cavacini had the first go on goal for the Colonels in the 8th minute, but a save was made.
Avery Buser had a chance in the 13th minute but was also turned away. The Colonels kept firing towards the target but were unable to come up with the right strike as Berry held on for a scoreless draw at halftime.
The Vikings had two early strikes in the second but both missed the target. Centre's first try of the half did not.
Aida Bell took a feed from
Zara McCarthy and slotted the ball home. Bell's third tally of the season gave the Colonels the much-deserved lead in the 49th minute. In the 65th minute, McCarthy dialed up her own number and scored her 5th goal of the season. It marked the second straight Friday night with a goal and assist for McCarthy. This goal gave Centre a commanding 2-0 lead.
Madeline Redmon made her only save of the night in the 78th minute as Centre's defense would not allow Berry to find any momentum. The two goals proved more than enough as Redmon was able to close out the clean sheet.
Centre controlled most of the offensive flow in the game, putting 8 shots on goal compared to 1 for Berry. The Colonels also drew an impressive 9 corners to only 1 for the Vikings.
The Colonels stay in Georgia for the weekend as they will battle Oglethorpe on Sunday starting at 12:00pm.
