DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre football team put on its second offensive explosion in as many weeks as the Colonels lit up the scoreboard in a 69-30 victory over Sewanee, Centre's 20th in a row in the series.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Faced with a short field to start the game, the Colonels took only two plays to put points on the board as
Dant Bowling caught a pass from
Mason Trimble, broke a pair of tackles and tightroped the sideline for a 54-yard touchdown.
- Sewanee answered with a field goal to make it 7-3 before Centre again had good field position after a squib kick.
Kyle Davis and
Tate Johnson covered most of the yardage in a drive that resulted in an
Isaac Johnson field goal.
- The Tigers quickly responded again as a 69-yard run was the biggest play in a scoring drive to tie the game at 10-10.
- As the second quarter began, Centre capped off a long drive with another field goal from Johnson, giving the Colonels a 13-10 lead. The defense then made a big stop as a
Wyatt Fowler sack stopped the tigers in their tracks.
- A short punt gave Centre favorable field position once again and on third down, Trimble's pass was deflected at the line of scrimmage and wound back up in the quarterback's hands to gain 11 yards and face a short yardage situation on fourth down. After Davis converted the fourth down, Centre scored on the very next play as Trimble found
Terry Cayson for a 32-yard score and a 20-10 lead for the Colonels.
- Centre's defense again came up big on the next drive as
Ollie Carter forced a Sewanee fumble and
Brenden Anthony fell on the loose ball to give Centre possession near midfield. Four plays later, Trimble hooked up with
Ant Barbee in the corner of the end zone on a beautiful throw and catch for a 29-yard touchdown, putting the home team up 27-10.
- On Centre's next drive, Trimble and Barbee connected again for a critical third down conversion. Trimble then hit Bowling over the middle and the fifth-year senior made a defender miss and raced 36 yards for another touchdown.
- Sewanee drove the length of the field and scored a touchdown to make it a 34-17 game, leaving the Colonels 61 seconds to go in the half. It only took Centre one play to get back on the board as
Jakei Tarter got wide open on a go route and Trimble hit the tight end in stride for a 73-yard touchdown, making it a 41-17 Centre lead at the half.
- The Tigers approached midfield on their first drive of the second half, but the Colonels turned Sewanee away as
Mario Brewer Jr. picked off a pass.
- Halfway through the third quarter, Centre got back on the board as Bowling caught his third touchdown pass of the game after Centre got inside the 10. Davis ran in the conversion attempt and Centre led 49-17.
- Centre forced a turnover on downs on the next drive, taking over at their own 45. Facing 3rd and 14, Trimble delivered a short pass to
Tate Johnson and the senior did the rest, spinning past two defenders to take it 49 yards to the house.
- In the fourth quarter,
Jake Carson came on in relief of Trimble and his second pass attempt landed in the hands of Cayson, who took it the distance for a 62-yard score and a 62-24 lead.
- Centre's last touchdown came in the closing minutes as
Dylan Gaiser continued to show his home run potential, scoring on a 59-yard run to provide the final score.
