DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre baseball nearly doubled its total run output for the year in the fourth game of the season as the Colonels defeated the Trine Thunder by a score of 16-1 to improve to 3-1 on the year.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The offense got off to a hot start when
Chase Austin doubled to open the bottom of the first. A shot up the middle by
Evan Weyler plated the first run of the game for Centre. With Weyler on second after a balk, a two-out error kept the door open for the Colonels and they took advantage, with Weyler scoring on the second balk of the inning.
-
Graham Johnson made it 3-0 with a base hit down the line. A double by
Baylor Woodall put runners on second and third before
Jamison Craig sent everybody home with a no-doubt blast over the left field wall to cap off a six-run opening frame.
- Trine got a run back in the third before Centre opened the floodgates again in the bottom half of the inning. It started with a leadoff single from Johnson, then Woodall was hit by a pitch and Craig walked, loading the bases for
Forrest Day, who uncorked a mammoth grand slam to make it a 10-1 game.
- With the wind blowing out to right field, Austin wasted no time in adding to the Centre lead with a solo shot as the two lefty hitters in the Colonels' lineup went back to back.
Ayden Lohr was then hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a wild pitch to give the Colonels their second six-run inning of the night.
- In the fifth, the Colonels began to empty the bench and still kept the hitting going as
Wesley Taylor delivered a two-run triple just over the center fielder's head to make it 14-1.
- Centre added to the lead in the next inning on an RBI groundout from
Michael Lynch and a two-out single from
Joel Lopez.
Carson Waddle and
Trevor Zimmerman pitched scoreless innings to end the game after seven.

-
Isaac Rone struck out seven in five innings of work to get his first win of the season.
