Baseball wins doubleheader to sweep series with Trine

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre baseball team won its fifth game in a row as the Colonels completed a series sweep of Trine with a doubleheader victory on Saturday, winning by scores of 7-4 and 10-0.

Game 1: Centre 7, Trine 4

- In the second inning, Centre put runners on the corners after a leadoff walk from Aaron Lopez and a base hit by Evan Rygalski. After Rygalski stole second, Baylor Woodall drove both runners in with a single for a quick 2-0 lead.
- Centre had runners on first and third again in the fourth and added to the lead when a picture perfect bunt single from Jamison Craig scored Graham Johnson to make it 3-0.
- Trine got back into the game with a two-run homer, but Centre got a run back in the fifth as Ayden Lohr led off with a triple into the gap and Evan Weyler ripped a base hit up the middle for a 4-2 Centre advantage.
- In the fifth, Craig led off with a double down the line. With two outs, Lohr singled up the middle to make it a 5-2 game. A wild pitch and a walk put runners on the corners once again and Lopez drove in a pair with a double into the power alley to make it 7-2.
- The Thunder picked up a pair of runs in the eighth on a solo homer and a sacrifice fly, but Zach Heavern completed a long save with a scoreless ninth to secure the win for Centre.

Game 2: Centre 10, Trine 0 (8 innings)

- Centre again cracked the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second as Craig legged out an infield single and Johnson doubled into the gap for a quick lead for the Colonels.
- In the third, Centre loaded the bases after an infield hit, a walk and a hit by pitch. Craig worked a walk to drive in a run and make it 2-0, and then Woodall delivered another infield hit to put Centre on top by three.
- Chase Austin led off the fourth with a walk and advanced to second on a balk, eventually scoring on a Lohr single to make it 4-0.
- The Colonels added another run in the fourth as Woodall deposited one over the left field scoreboard for a solo shot and a 5-0 lead for the home team.
- Centre had runners on second and third in the sixth and made it 6-0 after an RBI single from JT Weisberg. A deep fly ball from Craig resulted in a two-run triple, and Johnson capped off the four-run inning with an RBI single.
